Amongst the tranquility, at the mouth of the harbour, sits Quidi Vidi Brewery Company. Formerly Cabot Seafood’s fish plant, the building has undergone extensive renovations. There are a number of things that set this local brewery apart from the national breweries. The design and location of the plant are deeply connected to the local roots of its founders.
Fondly referred to as “The Gut” by locals, Quidi Vidi Village is one of Newfoundland’s best kept secrets. Situated in the heart of St. John’s, this rustic and historic fishing village manages to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. With its green spruce clapboard and white trim it looks comfortably at home within the rustic surroundings of the village.
One of the brewery’s distinct features is that we are brewing beer the way it was made over 30 years ago. Head Brew master Roy Ralph explains “We’re brewing malt beer with all natural ingredients, much like our forefathers did, but we have the added advantage of modern technology and state of the art equipment.”
Another significant difference at Quidi Vidi Brewing Company is the breweries open door policy. Owners and staff encourage group calls to make arrangements for brewery tours and samplings.
Owner Dave Rees best explains it this way. “There’s a really good feeling amongst employees here, and it comes from pride – pride in knowing that we are Newfoundland’s own brewery, producing really good beer.
“We are always happy to showcase our brewery to anyone who has an interest in local business success, good beer, and warm Newfoundland hospitality.”
